I haven't updated my blog in a while and a lot has going on for me and my world. Right now I'm at work and on my break with only 15 minutes to blog. This weekend our area where I live is expecting a bad hurricane (for us anyway). This hurricane's name is Irene and it's said to be expected to be the worst in 50+ yrs. Reading down my blog you know I'm also a volunteer firefighter. Actually, I lied, I do the photography for my fire company where my fiance Alex is a firefighter. I was doing the fire police there for a while but too much happened that I'm not wishing to say on my blog right now... anywho, I've been dubbed "Photo 5" at my fire station. I'm still very amature with it but this is where I'm getting my expierence in hopes to become a landscape photographer on the side =) With the expected hurricane I'm hoping to get pictures which I will share here and get to scrap later (yea! love scrapping and after all that's what my blog is for- to share my scraps of life).
I'd like to give a shout out to Lesley Oman as it is her birthday today 8/26. Happy Birthday Lesley!! She's the owner of Hungry Heffy Crafts which I happened upon through a video on Scrapbook.com. I have a link to her blog to the right, check it out!!

Inspiration Station's- 10 Reasons I love you book
I am so excited to share a project I did!! The idea came from Inspiration Station's blog. She made a book for her husband with "10 Reasons I love you" because she explained that they have a running joke for when she says "I love you" he asks "why". I found it funny because my fiance does the very same thing and when I saw her book I HAD to make my own. I did just that and I'm so happy with the results. I can't share it just yet because I shared the idea with a friend who wants to make one for her anniversary but doesn't want her other half to figure out what it is because she said she got the idea from me. The minute she's done with hers I will share my book =)
Have a great day everyone!!
**UPDATED (finally, lol) 8.5.11
This is only the first two pages. When I was updating this I was doing it from work on my lunch and now have to go back to work. I will upload the rest this weekend =)

A new traditional scrap...
I'm so proud of this scrap. Recently I've had a hunger to learn all I can about traditional scrapbooking. I've been watching videos and reading tips and tricks. This is one using a technique called color blocking. I love it!

My life and love...
It's pretty amazing the way life works.
I want to blog about my boyfriend. First I met him in high school when I turned 17. In fact it was at my 17th birthday party when I first met him. I had a slumber party for my 17th. You may think that's odd "what's a boy doing at a girls sleep over". Well, here's what happened.
My girlfriends and I were bored and decided to walk in town. My family lived in an apartment above a shoe store in the center of a very well-to-do "main line" town. We were not rich. Our family was rich with love and loyalty but not the cash flow. My mom raised the 5 of us on her own and insisted on giving us a good life. So anyway, as my girlfriends and I were walking past a bank we saw a car pulling up to an ATM at the bank in town but the driver was somewhat out of control. When he got out we instantly could tell he'd been drinking. I recognized him as the new boy from school.
This was still the beginning of the school year (Sept 1986) and I had just joined the group SADD (students against drunk driving). I told my girlfriends to distract him at the ATM as I reached in and took his car keys. When he walked back to his car and went to get in he became mad with the realization he's lost his car keys. I walked up to him and showed them to him but told him he wasn't getting them. Yes he was mad at first but then realized he was surrounded by girls. We made him come back to the apartment and told him we were going to make him coffee and feed him (to try and sober him up). We wound up chatting all night and that's how he wound up sleeping over (without my mom knowing). Later on she said she knew but I don't think she did.
Alex and I became instant friends but I secretly had a crush on him. Something inside me though made me keep it to myself because I didn't want to lose him as a friend if I told him I liked him. Things did move on and we become more but his heart was still back in IL where his family had moved from. He'd grown up there his whole life so he was broken when his dad's company moved to PA. He also had a girlfriend back home and he was torn between what he had in front of him and being loyal to her. I respected that. But not for long. I got the normal silly teenage girl thought of "if I give myself to him he'll pick me". I did just that. We were each others first and he was the perfect gentleman but somehow it still didn't feel right. My heart longed for us to be a serious couple without having a clue about what that really meant, I just felt it inside that he was "the one". For some reason though I could see he needed more of a friend because of how much he was hurting so I backed off. We agreed to stay friends and that we did. We went places together, talked on the phone for hours and even fell asleep on the phone together. I still had the strongest feeling of wanting to be close to him but I wouldn't allow us to cross the line again because my heart told me what he really needed was someone to be there for him. I don't know how I seemed so mature back then about the whole thing because if you knew what I was like after he and I lost touch and before we came back together you would swear it were two different people. It's too hard to explain.
I'm going to pause here for a second and I'll bring you up to speed on how we came back together in the next entry...

Blogging life...
OK, so who said blogs have to all be happy. I have something on my mind and I'd like to share it (even if no one ever reads it at least it's still off my chest).
Why does bullying happen? I've always been the type to "let things roll". If you don't like me for who I am that's your choice. Keep it to yourself and move on. Most of the time bullying happens when we're young because the underdeveloped adolescent minds don't know how to "let it roll". If you don't like something no one will force it on you (except school, you must do that). Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but remember, everyone has one so they're a dime a dozen. Even adults will bully but we don't call it that once we've left high school. There are bigger, better words for people who like to think they are better than the rest. I'll keep them to myself.
What's bothering me today is the age of the middle schoolers. That is the roughest age we will ever go through. It's where we really discover who we are and what life is about. There are so many things changing and new things happening every day; it can make their waters so rough even "The Perfect Storm" look like a mini wave. I can tell you this now I HATED middle school.
Then you have the difference in sexes. The age they are at is where they really notice and if they hadn't before this they will be forced to by the other children who have. This is also where all the social cliques begin (which are not really any more than advanced methods of turning people away because they are "not like you"). It can be as little as not owning a miniskirt (yes that was one reason I was shunned in MS) to as large as you are not in the same money bracket as my family. Again, we're all entitled to our own beliefs and prides. I won't dispute that. But what ever happened to humanity? How come the parents aren't teaching their children that someone else's feelings matter just as much as their own. I think by pushing people away (or out of your group) you could really be pushing away the next Einstein (I'd bet you would want to say you were friends with him after he became famous).
I want to go back to the sexes topic. The world is really different for a boy than it is a girl. In general when a girl is bullied things stop before they escalate to physical contact. We're also not afraid to speak up because that's where we differ. Girls like to talk so when we speak up things can get worked out. But not so for a boy. If you speak up you will become beat up. What is wrong with the male mind?
No male bashing. That I won't do but what I just don't get is WHY? Why physical violence? Why can't you talk things out? Why can't you agree to disagree? Why can't you just "let it roll"? I'm sure I'm not posing any questions that haven't been asked before and I'm sure they'll never be answered (not in my lifetime).
I wish I could just lift my son right past the middle school age. I'm not trying to coddle him or over-protect him but I think with all the history and lessons the schools of today have about bullying that it shouldn't be an issue any more...for any child male or female.
Grow up young people, there will be worse things to come in your life after school that you'll be wishing you hadn't wasted your energy "back when you were a kid".
